Laura Izibor is the newest musical prodigy to hit the R&B scene. A native of Dublin, Ireland - who's half Irish and half Nigerian - she's referred to as "The Soul of Ireland" in her home country.
Though she's only 21 years old, she has quietly made an impact, having already contributed her music to films such as Why Did I Get Married? and P.S. I Love You.
Her musical journey began at the age of 13, when she learned to love and appreciate the classic R&B sounds of Otis Redding, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Roberta Flack, among others. At 15, she won a national singing competition (the "2FM Song Contest" - sort of an Irish version of FOX's American Idol here in the U.S.). Then, at 17, she signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records.
Laura Izibor's debut album, Let The Truth Be Told - four years in the making - is scheduled for release in April, 2009. She's currently on tour here in the U.S., in advance of the album's release.

She has a very mature sound that's reminiscent of artists such as Alicia Keys, Jill Scott, and Joss Stone. It's easy to forget that this is music coming from a 21-year-old.
